Feelings Weather Kit | Emotional Regulation Activities for Kids
Looking for a gentle way to help your child with big feelings and emotional regulation?
The Feelings Weather Kit is a 17-page printable resource designed to help children notice what they are feeling, recognise body clues and explore what might help — without needing to explain everything straight away.
Instead of searching for the perfect emotion word, feelings are explored through something children already understand: weather.
Sunny. Cloudy. Windy. Rainy. Stormy. Foggy. Changing.
And “I don’t know yet” is always an okay answer.
A gentler way to explore big feelings
This is not about forcing children to calm down or finding the “right” feeling word.
The kit uses weather, body clues, movement, nature and simple choices to help children notice what is happening inside them and begin to communicate what they may need.
For parents and carers, it offers another way to begin when lots of questions are not helping.
Sometimes a child may be able to say:
“Stormy.”
Or:
“Foggy.”
Or simply:
“I don’t know yet.”
And that can be enough of a starting point.
Designed for children approximately ages 5–10
The activities are suited to younger primary-aged children and can be used together with a parent, carer, educator or other trusted adult.
What’s inside
The 17-page printable kit includes activities that explore:
- feelings through weather
- body clues and sensations
- movement
- nature-based noticing
- what might feel supportive
- how feelings can change over time
- a Grown-Up Trail Guide for supporting children during stormier moments
More than a feelings chart
The Feelings Weather Kit encourages children to notice rather than perform, explain or immediately change what they are feeling.
It also reinforces one of the central Wild Path ideas:
You don’t always have to fix the weather.
Sometimes the first step is noticing what is happening and knowing someone is beside you.
